NEW YORK, New York – The City of New York reports that one out of every three older adults aged 65 and above experiences a fall annually. This translates to approximately 30,500 seniors visiting the emergency room, leading to 16,600 fall-related hospitalizations.
From poorly maintained sidewalks to slippery surfaces in bathrooms and kitchens, the challenges for fall prevention among NYC seniors are growing. Additionally, the side effects of certain medications, such as dizziness or drowsiness, further compound the risk. Based on the findings of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), women fall more frequently than men and make up three-quarters of all hip fractures.
