Santa Monica Leads Urban Innovation with Comprehensive EV Charging Infrastructure Integration
Santa Monica is advancing urban sustainability by integrating comprehensive EV charging infrastructure into its building regulations. The new measures, effective from July 2024, require all new residential and commercial developments to include EV-ready parking spaces, with specific targets for multifamily residences, hotels, and non-residential buildings. These include installing Low Power Level 2 Receptacles in 50% of parking spaces, ensuring 15% have fully installed EV chargers, and equipping half of these chargers with J1772 universal connectors. For non-residential areas, 11% of parking spaces will feature Level 2 chargers, 18% will be EV Capable, and 20% of office parking spaces will be EV Ready.
